The Assistance Dog Assessment Association (ADAA) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ted, our wonderful “ambassadog”, best known for his appearances alongside Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse on the BBC series Gone Fishing.
Ted was a familiar and much-loved presence to viewers across the UK, winning over the nation’s heart with his gentle nature and those famous bottom teefs. Since 2024, Ted played an important role in supporting us at ADAA, helping raise awareness about the importance of owner-trained assistance dogs and how they can change lives. He was present at several of our events, including a fundraiser dog walk, our ADAA Sports Day, and even joined us at board meetings.
Becki Gude, trustee, has said: “We are so grateful for Ted for helping bring some attention to our small charity and actually raising funds for us. We will miss him and his smile so much.”
In a statement released today as part of a BBC press announcement, Bob Mortimer said:
Mortimer said: “So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much.”
Paul Whitehouse added: “Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn’t a dog; he was a species all of his own. He’s gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate.”
Ted’s legacy lives on through the awareness he helped build and the countless people he reached, both on and off screen. The ADAA extends its heartfelt condolences to his owners and everyone else who loved him.
